Traditional cowherd/pastoral communities also called the Maldhari community, have been overcoming challenges to care for Kankrej cows for hundreds of years with the best of sustainable processes. They have a rich conventional knowledge ranging from animal breeding, human and animal healthcare to water harvesting to sustainable use of grasslands. For them, the cow isn’t a commodity, rather a community member.

In spite of all their value and virtues, Indian cow breeds are being criminally ignored inside their own native land, owing to a lack of awareness about the massive benefits and craze for hybrid/foreign breeds. Today we have less than 3 lakh Kankrej cows.

Crossbreed cows’ milk, consumed by many of us, contains A1 protein which has negative effects on human health. The hump in Desi Cows has a special vein called “Suryaketu Nadi” which transmits power from the sun-moon into the milk.
