Bamboo Timber/Lumbar/Wood

Bamboo used to make mats, mat boards, corrugated sheets for false ceiling and roofs.

Bamboo mat board (BMB) is a plywood-like wooden board made from layers of woven bamboo mats that have been pressed together. It is usually made of three layers of mats and is about 3 mm thick. It can be produced in a range of standard sizes.

Bamboo mat board has similar properties to plywood, and is sufficiently rigid and flexible to substitute for it in a wide range of applications. Bamboo mat board can be used for paneling, ceilings, prefabricated shelters, packing cases, storage bins, roofs, doors and door panels, furniture and household utensils such as trays and plates. BMB is also used in concrete formwork

These are great eco-friendly alternative.

Bamboo as it is more popularly known is the tallest member in the grass family. It is one of the fastest growing plants on the earth growing reportedly up to 98inches in just 24 hours. Bamboo is mainly found in Asia, some parts of Africa and parts of Americas in many different varieties. Over centuries bamboo has been found a variety of uses like culinary, medicine, textiles, paper, construction, furniture, home décor and musical instruments.

Bamboo is not a tree. It is grass. The bamboo poles that we all commonly see are processed into timber/lumber. This is then used in construction industry and furniture industry.

The bamboo wood is one of the hardest woods and can be safely used as superior replacement in all wood applications.

Bamboo is a renewable resource that has become one of the most important alternatives to tropical hardwoods in recent years. Upon seeing bamboo flooring, kitchen cabinets or cutting boards you might wonder how round hollow bamboo stems are processed into solid bamboo lumber?

It is important to note that engineered bamboo can be divided into two main groups; “laminated bamboo” and “strand woven bamboo” (or a combination of both). Panels similar to OSB, MDF, particle board, mat boards etc. are also made from bamboo fiber and bamboo chips, but panels made from strips (laminate) or strands (strand woven) are by far the most used in Europe.

Laminated bamboo plywood is made from flat rectangular bamboo strips that are cut from the bamboo stem. These strips or “slats” are then glued together either horizontally (plain pressed) or vertically (side pressed).
