Why do we need greener options for making bricks? Here’s a quote from IDSN MOW “1.3 trillion bricks are manufactured on earth each year, and at least 10% of which are made in coal-fired ovens, on a whole releasing 800 million tons of CO2 annually.” In addition, clay bricks often destroy valuable topsoil.
Most widely used eco-friendly bricks are
- Fly Ash Bricks (FAB) – from industrial waste of fly ash
- Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) – derived from fly ash bricks mixed with cement, lime, aerating agent
- Compressed Earth Blocks (CEB) – made from clay, sand and cement. Old methodology
Here is a partial list of upcoming eco-friendly green bricks. Out of these many options we are introducing Agrocrete bricks that are widely used right now. Hempcrete bricks is a close second. Other kinds of bricks are gaining popularity slowly but surely.
- Agrocrete Bricks – made from agricultural waste
- Hempcrete Bricks – made from hemp (Not widely used or relevan in India yet)
- Recycled Glass Bricks – made from grains of used glass
- Timbercrete Sandstone brick – made from sawdust and concrete
- Microbial-induced eco bricks – made with sand and common bacteria
- Save Water Brick – made by mixing used plastic
- Recycled newspaper bricks – made with recycled news paper
- Green Leaf Brick – made from plant refuse
