Description
The charming herdsmen walk from door to door, serenading the family with a display of the ox, a symbol of good fortune and divinity. With the sound of their presence revering throughout the village streets, they mark the onset of a glorious tradition, the heart and soul of Indian culture.
The women and children of the household offer alms to the amusing gentlemen clad in bright attire and bid farewell until next time. This exquisite wooden toy is a product of Kondapalli’s most excellent craftsmanship.
Using a locally available softwood known as Tella Poniki and sculpting it into first-class handicrafts, the Kondapalli artisans continue a 400-year-old art form beloved to South India. This Kondapalli creation captures the typical scenario of the Basava and his beloved ox, extravagantly ornamented to celebrate the occasion of Sankranthi.
The artisan’s natural flair and the amount of time and effort that goes into making this unique piece together make it the perfect gift.
