Description
The use of turmeric, also known as Haridra, dates back nearly 4000 years to the ancient times in India, where it was used as a culinary spice, medicinal herb and spiritual practices. Curcumin is a component present in turmeric that gives turmeric its bright yellow color with incredible medicinal properties.
We travel hundreds of kilometers in Meghalaya in North East India. Seeing the green mountains, pure rivers and mineral-rich soil got a smile on our faces. There, amongst nature, we could see the fresh green turmeric shoots. It gets the name from Lakadong village, a part of the Jaintia Hills. Cultivated with the utmost care by Kudej community farmers only in the Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills District, it has the world’s highest curcumin content up to 9 percent.
Farmers take special attention to use only age-old traditional methods and specialize in turmeric cultivation. The only inputs from nature are sun, rains, organic manure and care. Our agricultural wisdom ensures the plants are nurtured to the best.
